Welcome to the Anson Middle School Library. My name is Tamara Stevens. I graduated from Anson High School and attended Hardin-Simmons University. This is my eighth year with Anson ISD. My husband Jimmy and I have three boys--Joshua, Zachary and Michael.

I encourage the students to do their best at all times. While in the library we discuss library skills, book report skills and have book talks. We visit websites for research and tutoring, and also have reading time. I want the eighth grade students to feel confident on how to research when they leave Anson Middle School;I want them prepared for High School. Once a month I read a short story to the students. Students are allowed to take AR tests, and work on the computers for research and typing reports.I encourage the students to find a book they are interested in and will read to make reading more enjoyable for them, yet at the same time I encourage them to try something new that may touch on their interest level. If a student is struggling to find a book, I help them to choose a book of personal interest/hobbies they have.

While preparing for the Book Fair I implemented "Student Involvement." Students filled out applications and interviewed for their positions. This gives them an idea of what it is like for a job interview. I believe the students took greater pride in their book fair since it was theirs. I am looking forward to this year's book fair and a new "Crew." It will be held in December--watch for our advertisements.
I am a sponsor of the Middle School Student Council, this year we are implementing recycling here at the Middle School. We will have bins set up for paper and plastic. More information will come in the newsletter.
A monthly newsletter is available for .25, announcements are made to let the students know they are on sale.
We will have a fund raiser this year at the beginning of the school year. Funds will be used for various things to improve and help the school in areas needed. We are selling the Texas Value Card coupon book, you may start using the coupons as soon as you receive them and they are good through December 31, 2010. Most items are buy one get one. I am excited and looking forward to the new school year and giving the students the opportunity to read. I feel reading is a very important part of everyones life, as I tell the students you will read for the rest of your life; you read everyday while in a car or any area you in. Let's have fun and read.
